MMP-9 as biomarker
.....for degenerative diseases in horses - Determination of MMP-9 in synovial fluid of horses with lameness using gelatin zymography, enzyme immunoassay and rapid test.

MMP-9 is important in the degradation of articular cartilage in joint disease and therefore it may serve as molecular marker of arthritic joint disease.

By using zymography for MMP analysis in horse synovial fluid it is possible to discriminate between normal and pathological joint status.

Because zymography is a very time-consuming and laborious method we developed a new horse-MMP-9 specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and rapid test.

The aim of our work is now to estimate the clinical significance of MMP-9 activities in other horse diseases.
