At the FZMB, research works in the field of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and ion mobility spectroscopy (IMS) are primarily performed alongside UV/VIS and infrared spectroscopy (IR), which are established as routine methods. Strategic objective is the development of compact analytical instruments and innovative evaluation algorithms for applications in the field of veterinary medicine, food control and pharmaceutical process technology (in-line analysis of solids). A variety of spectrometer systems and evaluation procedures is accessible, in particular the creation of chemometric models based on multivariate statistical techniques (PCA, PLS) and of neural networks. Since the appropriate reference methods are well established and accredited in the departments of food laboratory, biotechnology and veterinary medicine, a holistic approach can be pursued and application-oriented complete solutions developed.
